Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Feb 2018 ~ PART Two

There were some photos I didn’t have when I sent of Part 1 because they were on Pete’s camera. I’m adding them here. The first frame is actually from our bed at the Westin. The maid had made this cute caricature and put it on our bed on Wednesday. The rest are scenes from our first week. Cindy and Pete enjoying the Tesoro pool.

We enjoyed playing cards together after a long day by the pool, or in Cindy’s case, shopping. We played Hearts, and then we taught them our Game 500 because Scott and Cindy wanted to play in teams. Of course we skunked them. ;o)

We enjoyed some snacks, but the local ones were quite hot, spicy that is. They love to use chiles in their food.

I’m not sure where we were here, but the margaritas were not bad. I don’t know who’s idea it was to pain the light house like a candy cane, but I didn’t like it at all. I hope they go back to the solid tan it has been for years.

This was our breakfast at Mama’s, and Pete got the Eggs Benedict. They looked good, but mine and Cindy’s French Toast was better, in my opinion. Actually you can’t go wrong with anything you order at Mama’s.

This is a view of Pete doing nothing, and he does it very well. Scott bought himself a sombrero of rather large size. It made him easier to spot when he wandered off from the group.

Pete, Cindy and Scott took the water taxi (I think) to the beach at Billigan’s. I stayed at the Tesoro because I wasn’t feeling up to a long day in the sun. My hypertension was really giving me problems at this time. I think they had a great time there.

Getting into and out of the water taxi is pretty difficult for a normal person. An 80 year old would have an even harder time. ;o(

Now our second week begins. Cindy and Scott just dropped us off at the Westin Club Regina and continued on to the airport for their flight back home. We have had a wonderful week with them at the Wyndham Tesoro on the Marina in Cabo San Lucas. We are in the Lobby, and are waiting for our room to become ready. The Lobby has changed in a very positive way, with the addition of the bar, and a Starbuck’s station. We took a photo of the Members pool below from our vantage point in the Lobby and Pete took a selfie of us while we waited.

We wait patiently, sort of, and after an hour our room is ready. And what a great room it is, having just come from the Tesoro.

The Master bedroom is huge, and the kitchen has all the comforts of home, with a refrigerator and freezer that can actually freeze my gel packs for my knee. The view from our balcony isn’t too bad either.

Notice above that the microwave is built in. At the Tesoro it took 3 calls to the front desk to get a microwave delivered that should have actually been in land fill.

We were last here two years ago, and the resort had not yet recovered enough from the hurricane, and we could see that it would not be ready even by 2017, so we decided to exchange for the Club Regina in Puerto Vallarta instead. This year the resort seems to have completed reconstruction work, and all the restaurants and even the hotel are open for business once again.

Our living room below, and a view toward our spacious kitchen are such a contrast to our accommodations at the Tesoro.

There is even a hot tub in our bedroom. What’s fun to do is to buy a small bottle of BUBBLE BATH at the onsite store, and enjoy a hot and very foamy bath.

Our views of the ocean are breath taking. We really love coming to the Westin Club Regina each year. We are actually looking forward to our contract at the Tesoro expiring in 2020 so we can start spending two weeks here. I think I could enjoy that.

Cabo-Mar-2018-chptr02-08

The architecture of the hotel and the villas at Club regina is so unique, the eye never tires of the view.

I really love having two bathrooms. We have 2½ bathrooms at home, so when we travel and find ourselves with only one, it’s a real bummer.

Cabo-Mar-2018-chptr02-09

You really enjoy not having to wait until someone else is finished using the bathroom. Just use the other one. ;o)

Our first dinner was at the Inicio. Normally the quality and presentation are excellent. We figured that maybe they had the off-season chef on duty, and it was noticeably different. Still good, but different.

Pete spent a couple of hour in the gym each morning. You’ve got to admire his dedication.

Cabo-Mar-2018-chptr02-11

Scott and Cindy gave us their $8,000 bottle of champagne which they got for buying a timeshare week at the Wyndham Tesoro. I was surprised, but also glad that they now have their own timeshare week.

The Members pool is nice and quiet, and no kids. There is a special pool just for the kids. It’s great to just relax and read.

Cabo-Mar-2018-chptr02-12

The last frame gives you an idea of how large the property is, and how many hills there are to climb to get around.

As Pete likes to say, when we come to the Westin, we do nothing, and we do it very well. After spending the afternoon by the pool, reading, we head back to our room. I’m trying to avoid climbing stairs, so we are taking the golf carts every where we go, at least on the uphill leg. No point in tempting fate when it comes to my hypertension. For dinner this night we went to one of thehotel’s restaurants. Pete tried another martini, but his disappointment I believe has caused him in later meals to go back to the national drink, a margarita.

Cabo-Mar-2018-chptr02-13

I’m enjoying mineral water. Pete ordered the stuffed chicken breast.

I opted for the French onion soup and arugula and spinach salad. The salad was great, but the soup needed something.

Cabo-Mar-2018-chptr02-14

The next night was Italian night at the Altura restaurant (below the Inicio and by the pool), so the Inizio had a limited menu.

This turned out to be a blessing, because Pete ordered the Carbonara which was to die for. I got the Penne Pasta and it was ok.

Cabo-Mar-2018-chptr02-15

By now you can tell that we are not doing much, which is just fine with us, as over the years we have done all the touristy things, and they have lost their allure. Although it looks like we eat a lot, actually we only eat half the meals we are served and take the other half back to our room to enjoy as lunch the next day. We are known as the Tupperware boys in some places. Although the case may have changed over the years, the Tupperware has remained the same.

Cabo-Mar-2018-chptr02-16

Pete is still a little self conscious about putting our food in the containers, and he has me watch for the waiter. Me, I could care less. When you’re old you just do whatever you want, within reason. We know we could just ask the waiter to give us a doggy bag, but we figure we are saving a lot of sterophome and plastic from ending up in a landfill somewhere. We are being ecologically responsible. I actually wish we could get everyone to do the same.

Well, we head back to California tomorrow to spend a couple of more days with family. Our cat Boris is apparently in his end of life time, and we are anxious to get back home and care for him. Pete has been in constant contact with our vet, and those who are caring for our cats while we are gone, and we believe Boris will still be there when we get back. The cycle of life is to be born, to live and to die. Every creature is subject to that cycle. Boris has been a great companion for us for the past 10 years. We wish it could be more, but we have no control over the cycle.
